Visiting Canterbury and Dover

I spent three days in Canterbury, and while I enjoyed my time there, I think two days would probably be enough for most visitors. The city is wonderfully compact, and many of the sights are within easy walking distance, which makes this a very easy place to explore.

There is plenty to see, from the old city jail and the tower to the historic streets and buildings. Of course, the big attraction is Canterbury Cathedral.

It is absolutely enormous and impressive, although the entrance fee is pretty steep, so be prepared for that.
One useful tip: Canterbury has two train stations. It can be a little confusing when planning your journey, but once you're in town, getting around is easy and walking is definitely the best way to explore.

After Canterbury, I spent a day in Dover, and I wish I'd had more time. Dover has a completely different feel and is a fun place to wander around. I didn't have enough time to visit Dover Castle, so that's definitely on my list for next time.
The highlight was making my way out to the amazing Cornudon Lighthouse.

Getting there was challenging, but that was part of the adventure. The views and the experience made the effort worthwhile, and it was one of those places that really sticks with you. The White Cliffs are amazing but the view from the ship is so much more spectacular
Overall, Canterbury and Dover made for a great few days in Kent. Canterbury is easy, historic and packed with things to see, while Dover feels a little more adventurous, especially if you get out and explore beyond the town itself.

I'd definitely like to return — particularly to Dover, where I still have a castle to explore!
